Our Tree Planting Promise
Q: What is your Tree Planting Promise?
OUR TREE PLANTING PROMISE: “We plant three trees for every one we use to produce MAJESTA products.”
MAJESTA products are made from new wood fibres of trees from J.D. Irving, Limited’s forests. As part of it’s commitment to responsible forest management, J.D. Irving, Limited plants seedlings every spring and summer to reforest the woodlands. In the past 50+ years, J.D. Irving, Limited has planted over 850 million trees. Since 2001, J.D. Irving’s forests have been certified by The Sustainable Forestry Initiative Inc. (“SFI”). Our promise is: “We plant three trees for every one we use to produce MAJESTA products.” This means that three seedlings will be planted in the spring and summer for every one used to produce MAJESTA products the previous year. The number of trees planted will be based on the estimated number of trees used to generate the fibre to make MAJESTA products sold the previous year. The calculation of the number of seedlings and the plantings will be verified by KPMG’s certified auditors. That means you can feel good about buying MAJESTA.
Q: Does the Promise apply to all MAJESTA products?
Yes. The promise applies to all MAJESTA Bathroom Tissue, Facial Tissue and Paper Towel products.
Q: Who will plant the promised trees?
The promised trees will be planted by specialists at J.D. Irving, Limited - The Tree Growing Company®.
Q: How will you calculate the number of trees to plant?
At the end of each sales year, we will calculate the number of trees to plant the following spring and summer. The number of trees will be based on year-end sales of MAJESTA products and the estimated number of trees used to generate the fibre required for the average recipe for each of the MAJESTA products.
Q: What type of trees will be planted?
Softwood trees. As part of J.D. Irving, Limited’s commitment to responsible forest management, J.D. Irving, Limited plants seedlings every spring and summer to reforest the woodlands that it manages. SFI Standards require softwood reforestation through tree planting within two years, or by planned natural regeneration within five years. Hardwood trees will regenerate naturally on their own. Planned natural regeneration is required for both softwood and hardwood trees. An example of planned natural regeneration is when some trees are thinned to allow light and space for the stronger trees to flourish.
Q: Is the calculation for the Promise based on both types of trees?
Yes. The recipes for all MAJESTA products call for new-wood fibres from both softwood and hardwood trees.
Q: How many different species of softwood trees does J.D. Irving, Limited plant?
Eight different species of softwood: white spruce, red spruce, black spruce, Norway spruce, white pine, jack pine, eastern white cedar and red pine.
Q: Where will the promised trees planted?
The trees will be planted in the forests owned and managed by J.D. Irving, Limited in the Acadian Forest Region, and in the East Coast of Canada.
Q: When will the promised trees be planted?
Seedlings will be planted in the spring and summer. At the end of each sales year, a calculation will be made to determine how many trees are to be planted the following spring and summer.
Q: When will the first promised tree seedlings be planted?

Q: How will I know the trees are really being planted?
A third-party audit will be completed by KPMG to verify that all of the promised trees are planted by J.D. Irving, Limited. For the latest audit results, click here. Contact us if you would like to see any of our previous audit results.

Q: Is MAJESTA made from 100% recycled paper?
MAJESTA products are made from 100% certified new wood fibre. We use renewable new fibre to ensure that MAJESTA products have the softness that generations of Canadian families have come to expect.
Recycling is certainly important. However, recycled products cannot be made without trees and therefore it is also important to support companies that have made a commitment to responsible forest management.
For the parts of our product that do not require softness, we use recycled materials. The cores used in the rolls of bathroom tissue and paper towels, as well as the cartons used for our facial tissue are all made of recycled fibres.
Q: Is MAJESTA bathroom tissue safe for septic systems, plumbing and RV friendly?
Yes. MAJESTA bathroom tissue is made with natural wood fibre and therefore disposes easily through plumbing systems and is safe for septic systems. Two third-party tests (Column Settling, Anaerobic Disintegration) confirm that MAJESTA bathroom tissue disperses quickly and is in fact safe for use with septic tank systems, as long as the septic system is properly sized and maintained in accordance with its manufacturer’s specifications.
Tip: Fill an empty jar (a 16 oz / 454 ml jar works great) half full with water. Put in a sheet or two of your toilet paper. Shake the jar rapidly for a few seconds. If the toilet paper falls apart, it’s RV holding tank friendly.
Q. Does MAJESTA e•z flush disperse quickly in low flow and dual flush systems?
Yes MAJESTA e•z flush bathroom tissue has been independently tested by a qualified third party in two of the leading models, by sales, each of low flow and dual flush toilet systems
